Magda is an accomplished veterinary specialist with extensive training in Internal Medicine. She graduated from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2002, and furthered her education with specialized training from 2004 to 2009 at prestigious institutions including the University of Liverpool, the Animal Health Trust, and the University of Glasgow in the UK. Magda earned her Certificate in Small Animal Medicine (CertSAM, RCVS) in 2008 and achieved Diplomate status with the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals (Dip ECVIM-Ca) in 2011.
Her career spans both the private sector and academia across Europe and the USA, where she has made significant contributions through research published in international peer-reviewed journals and as a frequent lecturer at professional congresses.
Magda is preparing to assume a new role as Head of Internal Medicine Team at Medivet Godstone Referrals (MGR), starting in September. She will lead the establishment of an internal medicine referral service, leveraging her expertise to enhance diagnostic capabilities and elevate patient care within the local veterinary community.
Her professional interests encompass a broad spectrum of veterinary medicine, with particular emphasis on all endoscopic procedures, haematology and coagulation disorders, gastroenterology, urology, pulmonology, oncology, and endocrinology.
Magda embodies a passion for advancing veterinary care through collaboration and innovation. Azzurra grew up in Italy and her interest in Oncology brought her to the UK 10 years ago after she worked for almost 5 years as an Oncologist in Rome and Turin. Azzurra obtained her BSAVA Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2021 and has now completed her certificate training in oncology and is pending the examination.

We are delighted to introduce Shannon Gaffaney, Advanced Practitioner in Ophthalmology who will be leading our new ophthalmology second opinion and referral service at Godstone.
Shannon has been passionate about animals from a very young age. She grew up in California with dogs, cats, horses and a few other ‘smallies’. She jumped at every opportunity to pursue her veterinary ambitions, which eventually brought her to the UK.
Qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in 2001, her interest in veterinary ophthalmology began over 20 years ago and she continued further studies in this field alongside general practice. Shannon obtained her BSAVA Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Ophthalmology in 2021 and is an RCVS Advance Practitioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology.
Shannon is excited to be part of a dynamic team at Godstone referrals, providing high quality ophthalmology services in medicine and surgery.
Dermatology

Carly Mason graduated from the University of Bristol Veterinary School in 2003. She spent 7 enjoyable years in general practice before undertaking and completing an ECVD Veterinary Dermatology residency at Rutland House Referrals in 2014.
Carly achieved the ECVD Veterinary Dermatology Diploma qualification in 2014 and is currently an RCVS and EBVS recognised specialist in Veterinary Dermatology.
Carly is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Surrey Veterinary school and an assessor for the University of Liverpool post graduate Certificate in advanced Veterinary Practice Dermatology.
Carly enjoys all aspects of dermatology and has a particular interest in autoimmune skin diseases, allergic skin disease and otitis. She has published articles on the subject of canine otitis in the journal of Veterinary Dermatology Study Group (BVDSG) and European Society of Veterinary Medicine for many years and is currently meetings organiser for BVDSG.

European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology
Babis graduated from the Aristotle University Veterinary School, Thessaloniki, Greece in 1998. After spending time as an intern and working in small animal practice, he completed a PhD in feline cardiomyopathies at the Royal School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh in 2003. He then did a residency in small animal cardiology at the Royal Veterinary College, London and in 2007 he became diplomate of the European College of Internal Medicine (Cardiology).
Babis has been offering referral services for small animals with cardiorespiratory disease in the South East of England and London area since 2007.
He has published widely and presented and lectured nationally and internationally. Babis enjoys all aspects of small animal cardiorespiratory medicine and has a particular interest in interventional cardiology.

Dr. Carlos Gonzalez is an experienced veterinarian with special interest in soft tissue surgery and minimally invasive techniques. Passionate about enhancing patient care, Dr. Gonzalez focuses on surgical methods that promote quicker recovery and reduce patient discomfort. He continually strives to advance veterinary practices, ensuring compassionate and effective treatment for pets and peace of mind for their owners.
Orthopaedic Surgery

A graduate from the Veterinary School at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich in 1996, Christoph undertook a doctorate thesis on research into markers of bone metabolism for which he was awarded a Dr.med.vet. (“magna cum laude”) in 1999. His clinical training commenced with a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and was deepened during a 3-year ECVS-approved surgical residency programme at the University of Liege, Belgium, where he completed a DES ChirPA diploma degree of specialisation in small animal surgery in 2002. During his residency he spent training periods in the United States at the University Hospital of the Michigan State University and the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, NY.
Since 2002 he has been working as a full-time senior clinician in orthopaedic and spinal surgery in a busy referral only small animal hospital in the UK. In 2004 he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons by examination and a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He is a RCVS recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery since 2005.
Focussing on orthopaedic surgery for a number of years and having been exposed to a very large number of patients, he has accumulated a wealth of experience and furthered his skills to the highest level. This has been complemented by regular attendance at specialist CPD, conferences and master classes.
In addition to handling a busy clinical caseload, he maintained an active research interest and has several scientific collaborations. He has published a number of scientific papers in major veterinary journals and has lectured on a wide variety of subjects on a local, national and international level.
He enjoys all aspects of small animal orthopaedics, but has particular interests in arthroscopy, the management of complex fractures, the correction of angular limb deformity and treating feline patients.
orthovet was founded in February 2010 and has enjoyed rapid and continued growth since. Providing this new specialist service within a number of practices has enabled many pets to benefit from Christoph's clinical skills.
Besides his veterinary passion, Christoph enjoys playing music, the “French cuisine” and spending time with his wife and their two children. The Gordon Setter “Jazz” and the cat “Barnabé” complete the family.
Practice Manager
Kim has worked in the veterinary industry since November 2012 starting at a vets in Hampshire as a receptionist progressing to Reception Manager looking after 20 receptionists over 4 branches. Having moved to Surrey, she started work as a receptionist at The Veterinary Referral Centre, now known as Medivet Godstone Referrals and progressed to Reception Manager and then to Practice Manager since July 2023. Kim loves working in the industry and has had numerous animals through the vets those being a dog, cats and also homed a gecko. She loves travelling, socialising, going to gigs and time with family.
Veterinary Nurse
Abi qualified in as a nurse in 2020 and joined us in June 2024, having come from an out of hours emergency care background. Abi enjoys anaesthesia and surgical nursing in particular and hopes to complete her advanced certificate in this very soon. Outside of work, Abi enjoys travelling and socialising with friends.
Veterinary Nurse
Eloise qualified from Plumpton College in 2022 and has worked in a variety of different clinical settings since. She particularly enjoys medicine and ward-based nursing and has a keen interest in small mammal medicine completing her advanced small mammal nursing accreditation in 2024, which she looks to further with an internal medical nursing certificate. In her spare time Eloise likes to take her dogs for long walks, enjoys gardening and socialising with friends.
